With the start of a new school year most teachers will ask “So what fun did you have this summer?” Do you know what your child will say?
Nature Valley Canada recently sat down three generations of families and asked them one simple question, “What did you like to do for fun as a kid?” Please click the link the below for some interesting insight.
What did you like to do for fun as a kid?
As a part of a scout troop we invite, encourage, inspire, and educate youth to explore the outdoors and the wide world around them.
In the outdoors, youth have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliant. They can explore canoeing, white water rafting and hiking trails and overcome challenges they first thought were beyond their ability. Attributes of good character become part of a person as they learn to cooperate in a group to meet outdoor challenges that may include basic mobility, extreme weather, difficult trails, and dealing with nature’s unexpected circumstances. (summer camp skunks…lol)
Learning by doing is a hallmark of outdoor education. Our troop offers information and knowledge used on outdoor adventures each month throughout the year. We can describe and demonstrate a Scouting skill at a meeting, but the way Scouts truly learn outdoor skills is to do them themselves on a troop or family outing. Exercise and fitness are part of the outdoor life. As Scouts hike, paddle, climb, bike, or ride, their muscles become toned, their hearts stronger, their thoughts clearer. This helps build healthy bodies now and in adulthood. Isn’t time we all get healthy together?
