Cub Scout Pack 334 kicked off our fall Open House season last night in Roxborough, and the energy around the room—and the campfire—set the perfect tone for the weeks ahead. This was the first of three consecutive Friday evening Open Houses, designed to give families a chance to see Scouting in action while learning how to join the adventure.
Outside, Assistant Cubmaster Sarah W. gathered the Scouts around pie irons and ingredients for one of our favorite campfire treats: “pudgy pies,” also known as “mountain pies.” The Scouts layered bread, sauce, cheese, and other fillings before toasting them over the fire. The results? Gooey, crispy, and absolutely delicious. For some of our newer Scouts, it was their very first pudgy pie—an experience they won’t soon forget!

Meanwhile, inside the meeting space, Cubmaster Adrian H. welcomed parents and caregivers to an information session. Families had the chance to learn more about our Pack’s program, from outdoor adventures to community service projects, and to ask questions about how Cub Scouting supports growth, leadership, and fun for children of all ages. Tables were set up with details about upcoming events, uniforms, advancement, and volunteer opportunities, creating a welcoming environment for both seasoned Scouting families and those brand-new to the program.

The evening was a great reminder of what Scouting is all about: kids having fun and learning new skills, while families build friendships and find ways to be involved together.
And this was only the beginning! Next Friday, Pack 334 will welcome a local robotics team for a special hands-on demonstration of their robots. Scouts will get the chance to see real engineering in action and even try their hand at operating some of the machines. The week after that, the Philadelphia Fire Department will roll in with an actual fire truck for Scouts to explore up close—always a highlight for kids and parents alike.
Special thanks to the Den Leaders, Committee Members, and parents who stepped up to help, including: Amber R., Cheyene D., Frank A., Greg W., Jason S., Jen B., Jeff W., Kyle C., Larry N., Matt P., Mary T., Roger H., and William H.
If you missed last night’s event, don’t worry—you still have two more chances to stop by, meet our leaders, and see Scouting in action. Bring your family, invite a friend, and join the adventure with Pack 334!
