Additional Notes
In this new reality we adopted due to COVID-19, I felt I needed to talk about my journey with Jimmy and Gordon and their Eagle Court of Honor.
Troop 334 has had a very long history in celebrating the high honor of Eagle Scout. It dates back to the early 1970s after the lackluster council celebration of Eagle Scout #8, Jeff Craighead. The Troop Committee felt we should do something more and the birth of our Court of Honor happened. We have expanded it a little and tweaked it here and there but it has remained the same since 1976 when the first one was done. We have shared how we do it with many other troops in the region and they have adopted what we do.
So, in the fall of 2019, as the covid 19 reared its head overseas, Nick Springer and Zak Watson made Eagle Scout, becoming the Troop’s #74th and #75th Eagle Scouts. As we prepared for their Court of Honor, two more scouts -- Jimmy and Gordon -- were finishing their Eagle Scout projects and paperwork, and then COVID-19 hit.
As we postponed the first two Eagle Scout's Eagle Court of Honor, we had a second set of scouts (Kyle Watson & Tyler Woodruff) finish their projects and paperwork. Then as we struggled into 2021, trying to keep Scouts going, we had to figure out the Eagle Court of Honors.
Nick and Zak became a priority and as we worked the details on their Eagle Court of Honor, we had two more scouts (Jimmy & Gordon) become Eagle. So, while we were honoring Nick and Zak, we started to figure out how to move forward.
After consulting with the two new sets of Eagles and to get us back on track we decided the best thing for us to do, and for the first time in troop history, was to honor Eagles out of order.
So, if you look at the Eagle list, today we honor Jimmy and Gordon, Eagles #78 and #79. I want to thank Kyle Ross, Tyler Woodruff, Jimmy McHale, and Gordon Stamler for working with me on trying to get the Eagle Court of Honors back on track and caught up. This spring we will be honoring Kyle and Tyler as our troop’s #76th and #77th Eagle Scouts. Right now, we have 3 more guys in the bullpen (as it were) working on their Eagle Scout.
I want to say congratulations to all.
