Dear Scouts, Families, Committee Members, and Fellow Leaders,
Happy New Year! The past scout year was very interesting. We had trips to Penn Reel, a canoe trip and our Pittsburgh summer camp. We had some set backs, but these things I feel, while untimely showed how strong we are as a Troop.
Though my health issues caused disruptions in planning and execution of some of our programs we were able to continue moving as a Troop. I think it shows the strength of the 334 family, I have seen many other units fall apart under the same situations. I want to thank everyone’s understanding during this period and those leaders as well as parents who helped the Troop and I during this time. I am happy that our Troop survived this test.
I also want to thank those who even went a step further by offering to help me with things that were not Troop related but things I needed help with; this truly is living the scout way of helping others. The set back I had does remind us that it takes more than a few to run this program so please talk to me about how you can help in some small way to make our program stronger.
I look forward to 2017 and I have not been sitting around eating bon-bons but reaching out to people and programs to connect with our troop. Though nothing is in stone but I have had talks with people about Revolutionary and Civil War reenactors, people in the nursing field, local Swat team, game commission… just to name a few. If a parent has a trade, occupation, hobbies please talk to me about coming out and talking to the scouts about this, part of the Scout program is to expand their horizons through learning about other things than just merit badges.
Thank you,
David A. Craighead
